Setup Instructions Overview

This is the digital manual for the Red Series Smart Light Strip Controller Kit.

Navigating the Instructions

Please click on any of the sections in the Table of Contents to get started. We recommend working your way down as it follows an intentional flow that is user friendly and hub/gateway specific. As always, any questions, please see the Additional Resources links section or submit a ticket, we’re happy to help.

Quick Setup & Inclusion

This section assumes you have your light strip plugged in and assembled the way you want it, the blue LED bar is lit up and you are ready to include (pair) your light strip controller.

Inclusion (Pairing)

When you are ready to include/pair your Red Series Light Strip Controller Kit (LZW45), please start the inclusion process on your Z-Wave enabled hub. Once your hub has started the inclusion process, quickly tap three (3) times on the configuration/favorites button (A) and the light strip will start to pulse blue.

If your light strip controller includes successfully, the light strip will blink Green temporarily and then go back to Blue. If the controller does not include successfully, the light strip will blink Red temporarily and then go back to Blue.

If you run into issues where your light strip controller is not including, you may have to try an exclusion process. To exclude your light strip controller, start the exclusion process on your hub and then tap the config/favorites button (A) 3x rapidly. If you continue to have issues after an exclusion, you may have to move the light strip controller closer to the hub.

Getting to Know Your Light Strip Controller

Please refer to the above diagram to get to know your light strip controller.

A. Config Button (and Scene Control*): This button can be used for various functions as shown in the table to the right. It can also be used to trigger a Z-Wave scene. The scene is triggered when this button is pressed one time.

B. Level Up Button (and Scene Control*): This button can be used to increase the level on your lightstrip. Press (hold) up to increase brightness. It can also be used to trigger a Z-Wave scene. It supports up to 7 scenes (Tap x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, Hold, Release).

C. Level Down Button (and Scene Control*): This button can be used to decrease the level on your lightstrip. Press (hold) down to decrease brightness. It can also be used to trigger a Z-Wave scene. It supports up to 7 scenes (Tap x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, Hold, Release).

D. Digital Display: The display is used for several different functions during the operation of your lightstrips. In local config mode it will display the configuration parameter you are editing and the value. In normal operation it will show the level that the lightstrips are at. When your controller is running an effect (flashing, pulsing etc.), the display will flash alternating symbols. Note: there is a 5 second time out for the display. Five seconds after it has displayed the current status, it will turn off as to not bother the user.

E. DC Power Connector: This is where you plug-in the included 2V power supply. The rating of the power supply is 2V DC 2.0A.

* Hub must support these features.

Features Not Shown:

F. Power Supply: 2V Power Supply to be used with the LZW45 controller.

G. Light strips: These are the ft or 6in light strips to be used with the controller. The number of strips may vary based on the configuration you have purchased.

H. Connectors and End Cap: These are the various connectors that can be used to make right angle or T connections with your strips. There is also an end cap that needs to be placed at the end of your connected strips. The number and type of connectors included may vary based on the configuration you have purchased.

I. Accessories: This includes extension wires, mounting hardware, etc. Based on the package you have purchased, the included accessories may differ.

NOTE: There are many “Pixel” effects included in the controller. In order for the controller to run these effects correctly, there needs to be an end cap at the end of your connected strips. This is so that the controller can determine how many as well as the configuration of the strips it has connected to it. Energy Monitoring* and Scene Control* are built-in features of this controller as well

Setup instructions are different for each hub, so we've created instructions for the following hubs:

Custom Strip Effect

The Custom Strip Effects are similar our smart switch Animated Notifications, but give you more customization over color/transition, dim level, duration and number of iterations the effect repeats. Some common use examples are:

  • Light Strip pulses orange if the garage door is left open past 10pm

  • Light Strip turns red if the alarm system is armed

  • Light Strip chases green at 10am to remind you to take your medicine

Manufacturer Compatibility

This product can be operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless of vendor to increase reliability of the network. Each module is designed to act as a repeater, which will re-transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal by routing the signal around obstacles and radio dead spots to ensure that the signal is received at its intended destination. The Inovelli Red Series Light Strip Controller Kit is a security enabled Z-Wave Plus device. A security enabled Z-Wave Plus controller must be used in order to fully utilize the product.

Z-Wave SmartStart

This device is compatible with SmartStart.

SmartStart enabled products can be added into a Z-Wave network by scanning the Z-Wave QR Code found on the bottom left corner of the controller, the back of the box or the insert inside the package with a controller providing SmartStart inclusion. No further action is required and the SmartStart product will be added automatically within 10 minutes of being controller on and in the network vicinity.

Factory Reset / Exclusion (Removal)

To factory reset your device, first, hold the Configuration / Favorites Button (A) for 20 seconds until the light strip turns red and let go. The light strip should blink red a few times indicating it has been factory reset. You may also use a certified Z-Wave controller to remove the device from your network to factory default. Only use these procedures in the event that the primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.

Video Demonstration

Exclusion will reset your device as well and can be done directly from the hub. This is helpful if you’re running into issues with inclusion. To exclude a device, start the exclusion process on your hub and press the Configuration / Favorites Button (A) 3x rapidly. The light strip will start pulsing blue and if successful, it will flash green. If unsuccessful it will flash red.
