DISCLAIMER: You may notice there are a lot of over-used keywords or phrases as well as English that seems a little off. This is because these articles are used to feed our AI Robot (Ira) and she needs the data to be structured in a certain way.

REMINDER: This bulb should only be used indoors in a non-enclosed location.

This is the digital setup instructions for the Red Series RGBW A19 Smart Bulb on the SmartThings platform.

Navigating the Instructions

Please click on any of the sections in the Table of Contents to get started. We recommend working your way down as it follows an intentional flow that is user friendly and hub/gateway specific. As always, any questions, please see the Additional Resources links section or submit a ticket, we’re happy to help.

Quick Setup Instructions

Follow these if you have already installed the smart bulb before and are just looking for some quick pairing instructions. If this is your first time installing the smart bulb, please skip this section and work your way through the various sections below starting with the Prerequisites.

This section assumes the following:

  1. You’ve installed the Edge Driver

Let’s begin:

  1. Make sure the bulb is turned off

  2. Open up your SmartThings App to the, “Devices” tab and click on the + at the top right

  3. Click, “Add Device”

  4. Then under, “Scan for nearby devices” click, “Scan”

  5. Screw in the bulb (or turn the bulb on)

  6. The bulb should blink twice indicating it's in inclusion mode - it will blink once more to indicate it was included successfully

  7. SmartThings will then let you know that the bulb was added (and it should be called, "Inovelli Light")

  8. Feel free to label the device and, if applicable, add it to a room

Video Demonstration

If you run into issues where your bulb is not including, you may have to try an exclusion process. To do this, start by turning your bulb off, putting your gateway in exclusion mode and then turning your bulb on. Then start the exclusion process on your hub and turn the bulb on. It should flash one to two times indicating it’s in exclusion mode. If successful, it will become dim and you can try inclusion again.

If your bulb is not blinking twice, then try performing a factory reset.

Prerequisites

The only prerequisite to pairing this switch is the following:

  • Installation of the Device Edge Driver

While this switch will also pair without it, for full functionality, you’ll want to install the Edge Driver.

Device Edge Driver Installation

To install the Edge Driver, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on the following link Samsung Edge Driver Access and sign into your Samsung account (you may have 2-Factor Authentication on – if so, please follow the directions Samsung gives you to attain a code)

  2. Next, click, “Enroll” by the hub your devices are paired to

  3. Next, click, “Available Drivers”

  4. Finally, click on the driver you’d like installed by clicking, “Install” (NOTE: In this case, please install, “Inovelli Light”)

Now when you pair your bulb, it should automatically pick up the Edge Driver. Feel free to move onto the next section of the Setup Instructions below.

Pairing Instructions

The below instructions assume you have installed the Device Driver prior to pairing.

Please follow the instructions below to include/pair your Red Series RGBW A19 Smart Bulb

  1. Turn off (or unscrew) power to your bulb

  2. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  3. Press the (+) button at the top right of the screen

  4. Click on, “Add Device”

  5. At the bottom of the screen click on, "Scan nearby"

  6. While your SmartThings hub is scanning, screw in (or turn on power) to your bulb as shown in the GIF below - it will blink twice to indicate it's in inclusion mode and then blink a third time to indicate it included successfully

  7. If your bulb was included successfully, you should see a confirmation in your SmartThings app. If you'd like to rename the switch and/or change the room it's assigned to, click on, "Edit", change either or and click, "Save" and then, "Done"

Once your bulb is successfully paired, check to make sure you have basic functionality of it by turning it on/off and change colors.

Advanced Feature Setup

Below we will provide a link to all the parameters and show you how to change them from within SmartThings and then we'll go into some of the advanced features and explain how to set them up in SmartThings.

Parameter Explanations

You will need to install an Edge Driver prior to accessing any of these features from within the app. Instructions can be found here: Edge Driver Installation

A parameter is a setting within the bulb firmware that allows you to change how the bulb operates.

To access your parameters, please follow the steps below (NOTE: Fan switch instructions are shown, but the same procedure applies):

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Find your Red Series RGBW A19 Bulb and click on it

  3. Click on the three dots at the top right and select, "Settings"

  4. From here, you can scroll down, locate and change the various parameters on the switch

For a list of the most up-to-date parameters and the firmware version they are associated with, please visit the Red Series RGBW A19 Smart Bulb Parameter Page

Z-Wave Associations

Z-Wave Associations is when two or more Z-Wave products communicate directly with one another without the need to communicate with a hub. There are two main benefits of utilizing Z-Wave Associations: speed & local control.

From a speed standpoint, cutting out the middle-man (hub) can save precious milliseconds or even seconds depending on your cloud and/or processing power off your hub. Whereas from a local control standpoint, if your hub goes does down and cannot communicate, your products can still talk to each other.

To setup Z-Wave Associations with your SmartThings Hub, please see this article: Setting Up Z-Wave Associations • SmartThings
